A Welcome from the Founding Members
The goals and challenges presented by this
organization exist to take you outside your comfort zone and test
your skills as a hunter. Most of us, including many of the
founding members of this organization, hunt what they know and what
lives nearby.
The Self-Guided Hunting Association was
created for several reasons. First, we want to promote
self-guided hunting. Not because we are opposed to "guided"
hunts, but because there is a tremendous amount of satisfaction from
working to harvest an animal on your own, regardless of the outcome.
Second we want to work to preserve accessibility to hunting areas
and public lands used by self-guided hunters. Third, and most
importantly, we wanted to bring people together who share a common
passion for hunting and all that it means.
This Self-Guided Hunting Association is not
meant to compete with or replace organizations like Boone and
Crockett, Pope and Young, the National Muzzle Loading Rifle
Association, and the Safari Club. These alliances have done so
much to help preserve our heritage. Instead, the
Self-Guided
Hunting Association is meant to compliment these clubs, and offer an opportunity to focus on the skills and achievements of the
individual hunter, not solely on the animal harvested. We hope
you will recognize the opportunities and benefits of joining our
association and our first 500 members will be considered our
‘Founding Members’ and the rate of their subscription will never
change as long as they keep their membership active.
We look forward to meeting all of you and as
always, Enjoy Your Time in the Field...
